Vehicles Contacting Overhead Powerlines – Tyre Fires, Pyrolysis and Explosions
Mobile machinery contacting energised overhead powerlines can pose a greater risk than first meets the eye. This safety highlight is based on a previously issued Mines Safety Bulletin and describes prevention as well as the best actions to take in the event of vehicle contact with powerlines.
Overhead Powerline Condition Assessment
Overhead network assets require regular inspections and condition monitoring in order to maintain their safety and performance as they age. This case study demonstrates the usefulness of photographic records obtained via Gridvision’s aerial pole top inspections to identify areas for maintenance at a major Queensland coal mine.
Vegetation Management
Gridvision’s powerline surveying services provide in-depth, accurate data that can be used to develop a vegetation management plan, as detailed in this case study highlighting the use of LiDAR data obtained by aerial powerline inspection. Gridvision is helping this major Queensland coal mine to use the data obtained to create a proactive vegetation management plan.
Inspection at a Major QLD Coal Mine
In 2018 Gridvision facilitated overhead powerline network inspections at a major Queensland coal mine. The inspections included both aerial surveying, followed by aerial pole top condition monitoring. The mine now has an extremely useful detailed 3D model of their entire site, which includes all overhead powerlines, terrain and vegetation at the time of the flyover LiDAR survey.
